Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is another sightseeing treasure the states of Arizona and Utah share. It stretches from Lees Ferry, Arizona, where the Grand Canyon begins, to the famous Orange Cliffs of Utah.

There is so much to be said about this fantastic place. To begin with, it offers diverse, vibrant views, where the sense of tranquility meets the taste for adventure.

Glen Canyon is where you can find the US’s second-largest human-made lake, Lake Powell. Besides being stunningly beautiful, Lake Powell is also an extremely popular boating destination. That makes Glen Canyon the perfect place for water-based recreation.

Besides boating, you can find here multiple opportunities for swimming, fishing, and other water sports. In case you prefer land-based activities, you can take a backcountry hike or a wheel drive trip. In other words, Glen Canyon allows for many wonderful ways to experience the outdoors.

Other exciting sightseeing opportunities include the several destinations you can embark on from the city of Page. Page is a preferred choice for those who love photography, as it holds the keys to numerous scenic regions. One of them is the Horseshoe Bend. This is where you can observe truly majestic views of how the Colorado River winds through Glen Canyon.

Antelope Canyon is another captivating destination starting from the city of Page. This breathtaking canyon is located on the left shore of Lake Powell. With its narrow sandstone walkways winding between red sandstone cliffs, Antelope Canyon is one of the most photographed locations in Northern Arizona. To access it, however, make sure you sign up for a guided tour, as it is located on private land that belongs to the Navajo Nation.

Highway 89 also starts from Page. It is a wonderful trail that allows you to witness exhilarating scenery. The roundtrip is a tad over one mile and is quite mild.

Sedona

Sedona is undisputedly one of the most captivating places in the US. There is so much to it that we have to dedicate a separate article to this beauty of a destination. However, let us only slightly lift the curtain.

To begin with, Sedona is known for its outstandingly colorful, vibrant landscape. Formidable red rocks align with jagged sandstone buttes as if only to challenge a sky that is always the bluest of the blue.

As you might imagine, Sedona is a common fascination among filmmakers and artists of all backgrounds and calibers. “Midnight Run,” “Broken Arrow,” and “3:10 to Yuma” are only a few of the box-office hits that have been shot in Sedona.

Of course, that is not all. The vast area around Sedona is the home to over a hundred amazing hiking trails. Guided off-road drives are also a wonderful way to explore the local wilderness.

Another of Arizona’s unique sightseeing destinations is the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. It is conveniently located immediately south of the Utah state line, in Arizona’s Northern Coconino County.

Under its formidable area of 239,689 acres in land, the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument protects the following geographical locales: Paria Plateau, Vermilion Cliffs, Coyote Buttes, and Paria Canyon.

As you can imagine, the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is the home to diverse landscapes and sceneries. The elevations here range between 3,100 to 7,100 feet.

The best part about Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is that it is largely unspoiled. Besides the breathtaking views it offers, the area hosts an ever-growing number of California condors, which are an endangered species. Every year, new birds hatched and raised in the local captive breeding program are released into the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.

Scenic drives, hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities are among the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument’s main attractions. It is suitable for a wide variety of recreational visitors.
